As part of the World Space Week initiative, Mattel Inc and the European Space Agency have teamed up to create a unique Barbie doll and launch it into space. The action of the toy manufacturer and ESA should inspire the girls to try careers in space, such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The doll is a replica of Samantha Cristoforetti, who is preparing to fly to the International Space Station next July. Italian cosmonaut holds the record for the longest space flight among women. The 44-year-old woman stayed in space for 199 days. The look-alike doll demonstrated the preparation of an astronaut before a flight into space, as well as the process of traveling and staying in zero gravity.
