Colin Farrel Filed for Custody of His Son Who Suffers from Angelman Syndrome

Colin Farrel

Actor Colin Farrell and his ex-wife Kim Bordenave recently filed for legal custody of their shared son James, who will turn 18 in September. Together, they intend to be able to legally manage all of their son's needs and wants. James will celebrate his birthday on September 12th.

The thing is that Farrell Jr. has Angelman syndrome. This is a genetic disease, followed by mental retardation, disability, and also affects the nervous system. It is characterized by sleep disturbances, seizures, erratic movements, and frequent laughter. The documents indicate that James has problems with fine motor skills and is unable to ensure his own health and well-being.

As a result, the 44-year-old actor and 49-year-old model asked the court for the right to access James' confidential records in order to be able to give or deny medical consent and make decisions regarding their son's relationship on his behalf.

The court documents also say that due to illness, James will not be able to express his preferences concerning custody, as well as to attend the meeting, which will be held on September 27.

Several years ago, Colin spoke about his son's illness in an interview, admitting that his son's illness brings him great pain. Farrell and Bordenave broke up shortly after James was born. The actor also has the youngest son, Henry, who was born in 2009.
