A diamond that has a record weight went under the hammer at Sotheby's. It was sold for 4,3 million dollars. This was reported on the official page of the auction house on Twitter.

The gem is called The Enigma, and its online sale was scheduled for February 3-9. The event took place in Dubai. Prior to this, the lot of 555.55 carats was kept in a private collection for more than two decades. What's more, the stone never participated in exhibitions and wasn't seen on open sale. According to the auction house, the diamond's age numbers a billion years.

The buyer was an American businessman Richard Heart. He announced his intention to give a new name to the jewel- HEX.com diamond in honor of his own blockchain platform.

In January, it was reported that cryptocurrencies would be accepted as payment for the diamond. It was also noted that in 2006 the stone entered the Guinness Book of Records. It was named the largest cut diamond in the world.
