Sesame Street’s New Muppet Will Support Children Who Underwent Conflict and Crisis

Sesame Street New Muppet

Sesame Street will present a new Muppet. The character, named Ameera, will support children and their families who underwent crises and conflicts. The Mappet will debut already next week and will be available on Ahlan Simsim, the local version of the show. It is broadcasted in the Middle East and North Africa.

The new character depicts a funny and curious 8-year-old who has a passion for science and also plays basketball. Ameera has a wheelchair made in bright purple color and forearm crutches that help her move due to spinal cord harm.

She has a great sense of humor and is a leader, motivating friends to be the best versions of themselves. According to the president of the show, the Muppet is designed to break stereotypes and show children’s life experiences. Ameera reminds us of more than 12 million displaced persons and 240 million children on the planet who have a disability. In addition, she demonstrates the important role of girls in STEM.

Nowadays, more children than ever before are influenced by conflict and displacement, so Ameera highlights the urgent necessity for creative methods to provide playful learning ways of education to communities affected by this problem.
