Sweden Has Proposed a Bill That Will Legally Change Sex From the Age of 12
In Sweden, two bills have been prepared and submitted for discussion that will make it easier to change gender. One concerns the legal change of documents at an earlier age, the other involves hormone therapy and surgery for transgender people.
According to the plan, surgical intervention will remain available only from the age of 18. The previous version of the law, which proposed lowering the minimum age for consent to surgery to 15 years, was heavily criticized.
The current version allows obtaining permission for such surgery from local medical institutions, rather than requesting federal agencies.
At the same time, the opportunity to officially change sex according to documents will appear from the age of 12. Earlier, it was reported that the authorities of New South Wales in Australia wanted to allow children from the age of three to independently choose their gender.
