Will Smith Took the Stage and Hit the Host of the Oscar Ceremony, Other Details

Will Smith Slapped Rock Smith Slap

On the night of March 27-28, the long-awaited Oscar 2022 took place in Los Angeles. For the first time since the start of the pandemic, the film awards were free of covid restrictions. The organizers also returned the format with the hosts. The show was opened by Beyoncé with the song Be Alive from the movie King Richard.

For the first time in the history of the Oscars, a streaming platform project won the main award. CODA: Child of Deaf Parents was released on Apple TV+. The drama is about growing up in a family of hard-of-hearing people. The story of a hearing daughter in a family of deaf fishermen also received awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor.

Jane Campion won Best Director for her work Power of the Dog. Best Actress went to Jessica Chastain and Actor of the Year went to Will Smith. This is the first Oscar in the career of an actor, receiving an award, he burst into tears. The evening for Smith as a whole turned out to be emotional. During the announcement of the best documentary, he took the stage and hit Chris Rock. The comedian joked about Jada (Smith's wife). The broadcast immediately lost the sound, but the cameras filmed Will shouting something from the audience. Perhaps this is how the organizers tried to raise the ratings of the show.

The record for the number of statuettes was Dune, which won six awards (including for editing, sound, and camera work). Hans Zimmer, who composed the film's score, won the award for Best Original Score.

Billie Eilish took home the Best Song award, beating out Beyoncé. Billy performed with her brother Finneas the song No Time to Die, written for the film James Bond: No Time to Die.

Best Supporting Actor went to Ariana Debose (known for West Side Story) and Troy Kotzur (played in CODA: Child of Deaf Parents). He is the second hard-of-hearing actor to win an Oscar. The actor dedicated his victory to all the hard-of-hearing people.

The Japanese drama Drive My Car won Best Foreign Film, while Disney's Encanto won Best Animated Feature.

The ceremony also recalled the cult films that this year celebrate the anniversary- 60 years of James Bond and 50 years of The Godfather. When Al Pacino, Francis Ford Coppola, and Robert De Niro took the stage, the whole audience stood up and applauded for a long time.

The award for best costume went to Jenny Beavan, who created the looks for Cruella.
